Information collected by the app
MacMuse does not require an account and does not send names, email addresses, contacts, precise location, advertising identifiers, conversation analytics, or cross-app tracking data to the publisher.
The app stores conversation history, imported document text, selected-model preferences, and generation settings in its sandboxed container on your Mac so the features you choose can work.
Local models and on-device processing
When a local MLX model is selected, prompts, document excerpts, and generated responses are processed on your Mac. The publisher does not receive that content. After a local model is downloaded, local inference can work without an internet connection.
Optional Muse Glimmer cloud processing
When you explicitly select Muse Glimmer, the request—including prompt text and any document excerpts or images you attach—is sent through the Hugging Face Inference Router to Together AI for inference.
Your Hugging Face access token is stored in macOS Keychain and is used to authenticate those requests. Hugging Face and Together AI process request information under their own policies; the publisher does not receive the prompt or response.
Model downloads
Model weights are not bundled with MacMuse. When you choose to download a local model, the app connects to its public Hugging Face repository. Hugging Face may receive ordinary internet request information, such as an IP address and user agent, under its own policy. The publisher does not receive that request information.
Imported files
MacMuse reads only files you select or drop into the app. Access is read-only through the macOS security-scoped file picker. Extracted text is copied into the app container for local retrieval and can be removed from the Library. Scanned PDFs are not sent to an OCR service.
Website and product guide
The MacMuse website does not add advertising, publisher analytics, or cross-site tracking. The built-in product guide saves its recent conversation only in your browser storage so it can remember the chat on that browser. Use the guide’s Clear button to remove that history.
The hosting platform may process routine request information needed to deliver, secure, and operate the website.
Support email
If you contact support, your email address and the information you include are received through the email provider and used to respond to your request. Do not send Hugging Face tokens, passwords, private files, or other secrets.
Deletion and your choices
You can delete individual conversations and imported documents in MacMuse. Removing the app and its container removes remaining app-managed chat and document data. Downloaded model caches can be removed separately. Website guide history can be cleared from the guide or your browser data.
Children’s privacy
MacMuse does not knowingly collect personal information from children and does not create child profiles or accounts. Optional cloud providers and the Mac App Store may apply their own age and account requirements.
Changes and contact
