Quick help
Start with the simple fix.
These answers cover the most common MacMuse setup and model questions.
01A local model will not download+
Confirm the Mac is online, enough storage is available, and the Hugging Face model repository is reachable. Interrupted downloads can normally resume; incomplete model snapshots are not loaded.
02The model is downloaded but not responding+
Switch to a smaller model first, close other memory-intensive apps, and begin a new chat. Llama 3.2 3B is the lightest curated starting point.
03Muse Glimmer will not connect+
Open Settings and confirm a valid Hugging Face token is saved. Muse also needs an internet connection and inference-provider access for the selected route.
04An imported file has no useful text+
MacMuse supports text, source files, and text-based PDFs. A scanned PDF may contain only images and will need OCR before MacMuse can retrieve its text.
05A conversation is missing context+
Continue in the saved chat that contains the original discussion. MacMuse uses recent turns plus a bounded summary of older messages, so a brand-new chat starts without that context.
06Which Macs are supported?+
MacMuse is designed for Apple-silicon Macs running macOS 14 or later. Local model speed and available context depend on the Mac’s memory and chip.
